The Boston Bruins have the commando in this series after two victories at home. The Flyers are basically forced to win this to keep it close, and it is a team that works hard for points. It has been two really close games already betwwen the Boston Bruins and the Philadelphia Flyers in the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Bruins won at home with 5-4 in OT and 3-2 in the latest game. Milan Lucic scored the game winning goal with only three minutes left in the third period. That is how the games have been so far. It is close, but it all comes down to a situation in the end. Boucher and Rask are the goalies who are expected to play in the net in this game and I consider Tuukka Rask as a better goalie. Boucher may play really good from time to time, and he made a lot of great saves against the New Jersey Devils in the first round. But he has not looked as good in the first two games in the second round. Marco Sturm got injured in the first game and he will be gone for the rest of the season. He does not put up a lot of points but he is a hard working forward who is a good penalty killer, so it is definitely a loss for the Bruins. Instead they’ve got Marc Savard back from his injury, but he has looked kind of rusty lately, so I suppose he needs a couple of games to come back to his normal standard. I believe the players in the Philadelphia Flyers can feel the heat at the moment, and they should have a good chance to win this game now when they are at home. The roster is full of hard working players and they will not give up in the first place. They are going to fight hard until the horn blows, to win this battle. I expect a close game anyway, just as the other two games earlier in this round, but the Flyers will go to bed as winners tonight. 4-3 to the Flyers is my bet and the game starts at 7:00 PM tonight. The Canadiens are not a team that conduct games and create a lot of scoring chances, but they have been very effective in the playoff this far. They are shooting around 20 shots per game, but they still manage to win the games with one or a few goals margin. The goalie Jaroslav Halak is of course one of the reasons to that. Halak has been phenomenal and he stopped the Washington Capitals with all their big stars. But don’t forget about the skaters in the Canadiens. They help Halak in every game, and work hard in their own end, so you can’t just look at the Canadiens as a team that lives on its goalie. But there is always one team that goes surprisingly far, and it is the Canadiens this year. The Anaheim Ducks were close to eliminate the Detroit Red Wings last year, because of the second string goalie Jonas Hiller who robbed the Red Wings forwards all the time. He took a lot of games to overtime and very exciting and close battles. The Penguins won the first game between the teams, and Halak was pulled after five goals. But Halak came back and played great in game number two, and the series now look totally open. I don’t think the Canadiens can win both the games on home ice, so I think the two teams share the upcoming games, and win one each. The Penguins are of course huge favorites, with players like Crosby, Malkin and Staal, but don’t forget that NHL is an even league and a team on a good streak can surprise more than once. The Canadiens are going to be in this series, as long as they have power to work as hard as they have this far. I think this games will go to the Montreal Canadiens, in front of a fanatic home crowd who will carry their team forward. The Canadiens will work in eight periods if they need it but they won’t give the Penguins anything for free. Count on a battle for every loose puck. The Canadiens win with a small margin. The San José Sharks are famous for breaking down in the playoffs, but after a renovation of the roster does it seem to be the right year for the Sharks from the west. They were great in the regular season, and they have won a lot of games in the playoffs too for a change. They have now a lead with 2-0 against the Detroit Red Wings who have a good team and they usually perform well in the big games. But as I said, the Sharks look good, better than ever actually, and the heavy pressure that has been on players like Thornton and Heatley seem to be gone. They are playing with another kind of self confidence, and they have started putting up points on the scoreboard. If they can continue may they carry the team really far this spring. They have the same offensive power as teams like the Penguins and the Blackhawks, and just like the Penguins, the last years Stanley Cup-winner, do they’ve got a good goalie. That is the difference between the Sharks andother top teams, like the Washington Capitals for example. The Detroit Red Wings roster is very experienced, but the players are getting older and older. They are dock getting an advantage in these kinds of games when players that can handle pressure are playing. In the first round of the playoffs did the Red Wings have problems with the Phoenix Coyotes, who had a good team this year, but they couldn’t keep up with the Red Wings on the ice and their skilled forwards. It was just the sharp shots that were missing, but then again, the Coyotes had a great goalie in Ilya Bryzgalov. The Sharks goalie Evgeni Nabokov is absolutely at the same level as Bryzgalov, so it can be hard for the Red Wings to score in this game too. The Detroit Red Wings really have to win this game to keep it close in the series. With some help from the home crowd do I think they will win this. The Blackhawks got badly beaten in the first game, with the score 5-1 for the Vancouver Canucks. Many people must have thought that game number two would end the same way when the Canucks took an early lead with 2-0 in the first period. But a lot can happen in ice hockey and the Chicago Blackhawks played better and better and tied the series to 1-1 after four goals in a row that made the score 4-2. The Blackhawks have won the shots in both the games and they bombarded Luongo who was in the net for Canucks, but he kept the scoreboard clean. Luongo is a much better goalie than Antti Niemi or Christobal Huet who are available for the Chicago Blackhawks. The goalies have been their weakest part during the entire season and I believe that the goalies might be the reason why they won’t go all the way this year. A winning team must have a great goalie and it has been clear this season that Niemi or Huet are not good enough to take the team to the finals. These two teams could have played each other in the Western Conference finals, they are that good. I think they have been best in the west together with the San José Sharks during the season. The difference between the three teams is like mentioned that the Chicago Blackhawks don’t have a really good goalie. But they compensate that with a really entertaining and offensive hockey, with young starts like Patrick Kane, Duncan Keith and Jonathan Toews together with more experienced players like Marian Hossa. They have a good mix on the depth chart and the hockey draws a big crowd to every game in Chicago. There is an interest in the city that hasn’t been there in many years. Vancouver is another hockey town, but the inhabitants there are more loyal than the Chicago people. The Canucks are now coming home to Canada, where ice hockey is a national sport and almost a religion. I think they will win this game with the help of their fans, and I think the margin will be two or three goals. The Canucks are strong at home and despite the Blackhawks victory won’t gained morale help them enough to beat the Canucks in Vancouver. They have an opportunity to take one game from the Canucks but I don’t think they will take it tonight. This is going to be a Canadian win. The Penguins won the third game with 2-0 in a relative bad game which contained a lot of problems for both the teams. They’ve got the lead with 2-1 in the series now and it is a big advantage for the Penguins. Important game for the Canadiens that can’t afford to lose two straight games at home. Penguins succeeded to get a win despite obvious difficulties in the beginning of the game. They were only able to fire three shots in the first period, and the loss of the key players Jordan Staal and Bill Guerin was clear. There were thus small margins in that game and the pressure is now on the Montreal Canadiens who must win tonight if they don’t want to risk to get eliminated directly in Pittsburgh when they return there. Despite the loss Tuesday did they play well and they were not far from a victory. They know what it takes and they will go out on the ice willing to fight and win this game. It can end in any case though, but if the Canadiens got any luck in the game and keep the Penguins from scoring in the beginning do I believe that the Canadiens have a good chance to come out from this game with a win. The Sharks won in OT and it doesn’t look good for the Detroit Red Wings. Are they out of power or is there still hope for the experienced players from Michigan?
