Will the Rangers bounce back after the horrible 6-0-loss against the Canadiens and win against their worst opponent Pittsburgh Penguins? In the four games he missed did the Penguins let in a lot of goals, but it’s different to have Fleury in the net and I expect a closer Penguins goaltending tonight. The Rangers haven’t won at home against a team from their division this season and they have had problems in games with a lot of pressure. The Calgary Flames have five straight losses and will try to get out of the fluke tonight. It uses to be close games between these two teams and I believe it will be the same tonight. The Flames have had a tough time in January and I’m sure they have some problems with their self confidence now when they have started falling in the standings. Blues are coming from the lover middle of the standings in the very close Western Conference. They can’t afford to drop points when it is so tight around the playoff spots. They did against the Ducks when they lost a 3-0 lead to a 4-3 loss in the third period. That’s typically for the Blues. Bad third periods. The Flames are desperate and the Blues are hungry for revenge after the last game. It is a great set up for a close game with and I think it is going to be just a few goals. Kiprusoff is good in the net for the Flames and they are bad offensively at the moment. Iginla hasn’t scored in ten games for example. Ty Conklin is starting for the Blues and that might open up for the Flames offense to get it going. But I don’t bet at any of the teams. I choose less than 5.5 goals instead. The Sabres are now ending their long road trip and they have been bad during this period. They have lost a lot of points and the team should be tired. The Canucks are playing in front of their fantastic home crowd and they should be strong enough to beat the Sabres tonight. Brodeur got pulled yesterday against the Ottawa Senators but I think it was mostly to get him some rest prior to this game. He will probably start and Ryan Miller is predicted to start for the Buffalo Sabres as usual. Miller has been great this season and he is one of the reasons why the Sabres are where they are right now.
The Sabres should be happy to be back at home in HSBC Arena in front of their own fans. I think that can give the players a boost and it’s about time to play as they used to. The Buffalo Sabres are a good team and I think they will be able to beat the Devils if they can play as good as they did before the road trip. I choose to bet on Sabres and a tie anyway because the Devils are a great team with a fantastic goalie and they can compete with every team in this league. The New York Rangers are going to try to get out of the slump they have been in. The game against the Carolina Hurricanes starts tonight at 7:00 PM. The Eastern Conference is very even this year and seven teams have 55 and 54 points in the middle. The Rangers are thus dangerously close to fall down in the standings. They have now three straight losses and their defense has been their weakest part. Lundqvist has not played at his usually high level either and he might be tired after his many starts this season. It is not confirmed who’s starting tonight but it will probably be Lundqvist anyway and Cam Ward for the Carolina Hurricanes. The Hurricanes have played much better during December and January, but they are still in the very bottom of the Conference. They are coming from a great 5-1 victory against the Boston Bruins and a game like that should raise the morale of the team. They have yet been brutal on the road throughout the season, but it’s the same for the Rangers on home ice. I think that the Hurricanes injury list could favor the Rangers, because it contain players like Joe Corvo, Erik Cole, Scott Walker and Tuomo Ruuttu.
This game is very hard to predict. I would believe that X is the basic bet for tonight, but I can’t decide what side I am going to choose. Under 5.5 goals might be a good bet because two good goalies are playing for the night, but it is still not safe because Lundqvist’s lack of form. Don’t bet, or do it with a small amount.
